Soltecture GmbH, Berlin, Germany
Soltecture develops, manufactures and distributes thin-film solar modules, using a proprietary technology based on chalcopyrite-type semiconductors (CIS/CIGSe). The company was established in 2003 as a spin-off from Europe’s largest research institute for thin-film photovoltaic, the Hahn-Meitner Institute, in Berlin.
After having operated and optimised its 3 MW pilot plant for five years, the company is now ramping up its Berlin based 35 MW facility. Sulfurcell has continuously been improving its proprietary technology and has achieved excellence in manufacturing both Sulfur- and Selenium-based CIS modules (CIGS/CIGSe).
The modules feature an unobtrusive and homogeneous outward appearance and meet the highest aesthetic expectation, which plays well into the higher-priced market for Building Integrated PV Systems.
New Energy Solutions committed capital in the company in June 2008.
